Community Partnerships and Public Art Initiatives
It’s common knowledge that art makes the world a better place, and our parks were sorely lacking public art. I started up The Mural Project after securing funding from a Missouri Arts Council grant. In a nutshell, I partner an area school with a park, create a template and call for submissions, have Parks admin jury the pieces, and then working with the students on any revisions. Students have painted on site, but after learning of how tricky transportation is, I pivoted and had students paint on plywood panels to be installed at a later date. As of today, there are eight public murals in parks that have been designed and painted by students, one by OTC students!
Oak Grove Community Center
